CYO basketball at St James is available for both girls and boys. The teams are primarily split into Junior Varsity (JV) in 4/5/6 grade. Varsity (V) level is mainly 7/8 grade. CYO basketball season starts with tryouts around the first week of November. After team placement is completed, practices follow soon afterwards. Practices are traditionally twice a week. Although each team is a little different, there is typically a pre-season Thanksgiving tourney in the area. The regular season starts in early December and runs through mid-February. There is a regular season break around Christmas, but it is typically replaced with a local Christmas tournament. Post season play for the JV teams is not typical, but the possibility exists. To qualify for the CYO tournament at the varsity level, you must finish at the top of your division. Each division is between 5-6 teams from the area. We end the season with a banquet at St James.
Program fees are set at the start of each season, but fees cover all games, tourneys, referees, team and player registrations, equipment and gym usage. Uniforms are provided for the players to use and must be returned clean at the end of the season.
During the off-season, the possibility exists for coaches to hold small group workouts or open gyms depending upon the time of the year.
